About the Ward  > Affordable Housing for Families and Seniors

A haven for families during all stages of their lives, the 36th Ward boasts one of the highest percentages of home ownership in the City. Generations of families have lived in the area thanks to the Ward's low taxes, strong property values, and diverse housing stock.

New Housing for Seniors

The Galewood-Montclare community is also home to one of the City's highest concentrations of senior housing facilities including the new Montclare Senior Residences. Located at 6650 W. Belden Avenue, the building's 153 independent living units make it one of the largest affordable senior living communities in the city.

Plans are currently underway for another senior housing facility to be located at the corner of North Newcastle and West Grand Avenue. The four-story building will house approximately 108 supportive living units offering a wide range of amenities for residents over 65. Both communities address the critical need for access to affordable housing for seniors.

Senior citizens who do not live in senior communities in the 36th Ward are served by Mather Café, located at Neva and Grand Avenues. Home to a popular cafeteria, the facility provides affordable, nutritious meals for seniors in addition to community programming.
