About the Ward > Neighborhood Improvement
Thanks to ongoing neighborhood improvement initiatives, 36th Ward residents continue to enjoy beautiful public spaces and state-of-the art amenities. In addition the routine maintenance of neighborhood infrastructure, Alderman Banks has secured more than $300,000 in funding for a five-year project to rehabilitate the Montclare Train Station and is negotiating a multi-million dollar streetscape plan for Grand and North Avenues.
Other recent neighborhood improvement projects include:
- Storm Relief Sewer System Improvements As a result of this multi-million dollar project, larger capacity, state-of-the-art sewers now protect flood prone areas of the Ward.
- Sewer Main Improvements More than 4,100 linear feet of new or expanded water mains were installed in 1997 alone.
- Street Repairs More than 450 streets, 200 alleys and countless curbs has been reconstructed throughout the Ward.
- Street Reconstruction Diversey, Narragansett and Oak Park Avenues have been rebuilt.
- Landscape Improvements More than 500 trees have been planted in the Ward over the last 5 years.
